Executive Committee Vacancy

One vacancy remains on the SHA Executive Committee: the Director of Diversity & Inclusion. According to Article IV(7)(a) of the Breakthrough Montessori Public Charter School School Home Association Bylaws, the President has the authority to fill the vacant Director of Diversity & Inclusion position. If you are interested in volunteering for this role on the Executive Committee, please sign up for consideration. Every Monday morning until the vacancy is filled, we will review new candidates who express interest in the position.

Advocacy Committee

We are looking for volunteers to identify immediate, short term (3 years), and long term (3 or more years) issues and interests that affect our students from PK3 in Primary classrooms through future 6th graders in Upper Elementary classrooms. The ideal composition of this Committee would include SHA community members from Primary, Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary classrooms. Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month.

Community Outreach Committee

The Community Outreach Committee's purpose is to help Breakthrough's SHA ask about, hear, and understand our unique community and our hopes and dreams for SHA involvement. This Committee creates SHA surveys on different topics, analyzes the responses, and reports the findings to the SHA Executive Committee and in General Meetings. Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month and 5-10 hours surrounding a survey.

Events Committee

Are you a planner? Help the SHA plan events where our community can enjoy being together. You will have results from the 2021 Fall SHA Survey so the events you plan can be responsive to what this year's SHA community says it would like. Possible events could include a fall festival, book fair, family fun nights, and an end-of-year field day. Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month and additional meetings necessary to coordinate events.

Fundraising Committee

The SHA relies entirely on fundraising and donations to achieve its mission of enhancing and supporting the educational experience at Breakthrough Montessori PCS.  Join this committee to identify and implement fundraisers this year and plan for future fundraisers to meet SHA project needs.  We want fundraising campaigns to be strategic, fun, and of all sizes.  This group will work to identify different streams of available fundraising; establish passive fundraising opportunities for the SHA; recommend strategic, tailored active fundraising campaigns; and more.  Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month and varying time for fundraising campaigns.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Library Committee

Breakthrough SHA has a history of giving books to Breakthrough Montessori PCS that provide stories and narratives reflecting our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The SHA gives Breakthrough Montessori PCS classroom copies and a copy for the SHA community to borrow. This Committee will maintain the SHA's DEI Lending Library database; identify and recommend to the SHA new children's and young adults titles to add to Breakthrough Montessori's DEI library; and identify adult titles of interest to the SHA community. Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month and time identifying new titles for the SHA's Lending Library.

Classroom Representative Support Committee

Support the SHA Classroom Reps! This Committee will help detail the role of Classroom Representative, identify ways to support them, and prepare other helpful resources (like snack lists with acceptable school snacks) for Class Reps and the SHA community. Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month and approximately 5 hours working on projects.

Distance Learning Support

Breakthrough Montessori leadership has requested that the SHA identify volunteers to prepare Montessori materials for home use in the event the school returns to a remote learning environment. Sign up here to help out if the school goes to remote learning.

SHA's Art Collective

Artists, graphic designers, designers, and anyone who likes working on artistic projects, please sign up to help the SHA!  You will work either as a group or individually to create works the SHA can use.  This may include a logo/brand for the SHA, advertisements for upcoming events and fundraisers, stickers, car magnets, decorating events, or other ideas that you bring to the group.  We want to hear and see your contribution!  You do NOT need to be a professional designer/artist to successfully work and contribute to this group. Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month and time appropriate to work on projects that arise.

Konstella Volunteers

There are many other ways to be involved with the Breakthrough community! New volunteer opportunities will post below as they become available.

We are looking for people who are interested in being admins for Konstella to maintain how the SHA community interacts on Konstella. This is a 2 year commitment, with the first year shadowing our current Konstella admin to learn the roles and database.

Webmaster & Website Designer

We are looking for volunteers to make our website a dynamic resource for our community. Please sign up if you have experience designing websites or if you are interested in learning how to design a website. Once the website is set up, there should be relatively little time required to maintain or update the site.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Book Club

Wanted: Adults who love to read and facilitate discussion about those books! The SHA has given Breakthrough Montessori PCS over 100 DEI children's titles. Sign up here if you are interested in facilitating a book club drawing from the titles the SHA has already provided to Breakthrough Montessori PCS.

Lunch Mat Laundromat

When weather permits, our children picnic on nylon blankets in the Green Space. These lightweight blankets need washed weekly! Sign up here to take them home on Friday and bring them back to school on Monday. Depending on your washer size, the blankets should take a few loads. (More detailed guidance included on the laundry bags.)

Class Pet Pals

Class pets are a wonderful addition in Montessori classrooms, teaching practical applications of many Montessori principals. Breakthrough's class pets are no exception! Sign up here to help identify pet supply needs, community donation or discount opportunities for supplies, and distribution to the Breakthrough pets. Anticipated commitment is one meeting a month.
